We All Went On Safari: A Counting Journey Through Tanzania by Laurie Krebs
This is a lovely counting rhyme that takes the reader through the beautiful landscape of the Tanzanian grasslands, counting the animals as they are sighted along with a Masai family who counts them in Swahili.  Information text can be found at the end of the book, including facts about Tanzania and the Maasai people, along with a map and how to count to ten in Swahili.

Elizabeti’s Doll, Mama Elizabeti, and Elizabeti's School by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen
These are some of our family's favorite books!  Elizabeti is a sweet young girl from Tanzania whom we get to journey with in different times of her childhood, from making her first doll out of a rock, caring for her younger brother, and going off to school.  And as a side note, Elizabeti's School pairs beautifully with We All Went on Safari (pictured above)!

Babu’s Song by Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen
This is a sweet story of a boy who makes a decision to sell the music box his grandfather made for him in order to buy a brand new soccer ball that he's been eyeing for quite some time.  He leaves the store with excitement, but as he walks home he is slowly overcome with regret.  He has to face his grandfather with the hurtful truth, and is met with compassion and love.  A beautiful story!
