Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema
Ms. Aardema is a veteran in the children's book world, so although I have yet to read this book, I trust that it is of value because she wrote it.  It is also a Reading Rainbow book, so that says a lot as well!

First Come the Zebra by Lynne Barasch
Two boys live side-by-side yet are enemies because of their differing ethnicity.  Then a situation occurs where they have to put their differences aside.  This is an inspiring tale of overcoming prejudices to work together toward a common goal.

Mama Panya’s Pancakes: A Village Tale from Kenya by Rich Chamberlin and Mary Chamberlin
In this story a young boy continues to invite friends over for a pancake dinner as he and his mother walk to the market.  His mother wonders how she will ever feed them all, although does not discourage her son's generosity.  As she is preparing the meal their guests arrive, each bringing something with them as a gift to contribute, showing that when everyone shares what they have, there will always be enough!

14 Cows for America by Carmen Agra Deedy
This is an inspiring and heart warming true story of the loving response of the Maasai people to Americans after learning about September 11th. "To heal the pain in someone's heart, you give them something that is close to your own heart." Such a beautiful and powerful wisdom.

Seeds of Change: Planting a Path to Peace by Jen Cullerton Johnson
This is an inspiring true story of Wangari Maathai, a champion of both women's and environmental rights, who became the first African woman, and environmentalist, to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
